Overview
I was responsible for the full-stack development and deployment of a responsive digital platform designed to deliver clinical audio content regarding "The Physiology of the Effects of Therapeutic Heat on the Body." This project required a high-performance, accessible interface that allowed healthcare professionals to engage with audio presentations and download technical transcripts via Adobe PDF.
The Challenge: Bridging the "Legacy Gap"
A primary technical hurdle was the requirement for universal accessibility across a highly fragmented device landscape.
- Infrastructure Constraints: While the site needed to be fully responsive for modern mobile devices, a significant portion of the Pfizer sales force utilized legacy hardware (IBM ThinkPads) running Internet Explorer 7.
- The Compatibility Matrix: My objective was to engineer a solution that maintained high-fidelity audio playback on modern iOS and Android devices without breaking functionality for legacy enterprise browsers.
Advanced Media Engineering and Codec Optimization
To solve the audio playback requirements, I implemented jPlayer, an open-source JavaScript media library, which I heavily customized for this specific environment.
- Reliability Tweaking: The implementation required extensive manual adjustments to the JavaScript library to ensure stable performance across disparate browser engines.
- Multi-Format Encoding: I overcame playback failures by identifying the optimal codecs and providing redundant audio formats to ensure the content was available to 100% of the target audience.
Full-Stack Technical Implementation
I took 100% ownership of the technical lifecycle, from the server-side architecture to the front-end user experience.
- Core Development: I performed all HTML, JavaScript, and CSS programming, ensuring a lean codebase that prioritized fast load times on mobile networks.
- Infrastructure & DNS: I architected the hosting environment, managing the full installation, server configuration, and DNS mapping to provide a stable, "always-on" resource for the sales force.
Data-Driven Insights and Quality Assurance
To ensure the platform met the rigorous standards of a global pharmaceutical leader, I implemented a robust testing and analytics layer.
- Cross-Browser QA: I conducted 100% of the mobile device and cross-browser testing, personally validating the user experience on every targeted platform, from legacy IE7 to the latest mobile browsers.
- Campaign Tracking: I integrated Google Analytics to track site utilization and the effectiveness of various advertising and media campaigns. This provided the client with transparent, documented data on how their field force and audience interacted with the content.
Key Insight: In an enterprise environment, innovation must be inclusive of legacy infrastructure. By re-engineering modern audio delivery for outdated browser environments, I ensured that 100% of the Pfizer sales force—not just those with the latest hardware—had the tools necessary to communicate the science of therapeutic heat.
